Obituary of Samuel Gullotti

Samuel Gullotti, 87, of 131 Fulton St, died at 5:42 a.m. Saturday (July 24, 2010) in his home surrounded by his family and his primary care givers, Angel Rodriguez and Brenda Nazario. He was born January 5, 1923 in Jamestown the son of Samuel and Rosaria Gullotti. His family moved to Italy when he was one year old and Sam grew up in Tortorici, Sicily. He attended a tailoring trade school in Italy for 10 years. In 1949, at the age of 26, he returned to the United States settling in New York City, working as a tailor. He also worked in Baltimore, MD for a short time, but returned to NYC. He moved to Jamestown in 1950, working at Fashion Tailor until 1955. In 1955, he opened his own Tailor Shop on Winsor St., relocating in 1962 to 800 East Second St. where he and his wife worked for 25 years until his retirement in 1995. He often spoke of the conversations he had with his customers and truly missed this interaction after his retirement. Sam was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish, Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife the former Josephine Trusso with whom he celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary July 7, 2010; two daughters, Millie (Don) Ball and Josie (Andy) Monfort; four grandchildren, Michelle (Ryan) Jensen, Michael (Jamie) Bower, Ally and Harrison Monfort; four great grandchildren, Stuart and Jillian Jensen; Myla and Bryce Bower; and several half brothers and a half sister. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Rose Gullotti Bower in 1995; two brothers, Sebastian and Joseph Gullotti; and three sisters, Sarah Benedetto, Carmela Gullotti, and Anna Lee. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday in Holy Apostles Parish Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor, will be celebrant. Entombment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian wake service will be held at 1:45 p.m. Monday. The family would like to express their thanks to all of Sam's care givers and members of the Hospice team.
