Obituary of Daniel R. McIlvain

Daniel R. McIlvain, 60, of 446 32nd Ave., Vero Beach, FL, died Saturday, July 31, 2010 in Jamestown, NY, following a brief illness. He was the husband of Rose Mary DeFrisco McIlvain. Daniel was born September 7, 1949 in Dunkirk, NY, the son of the late Robert McIlvain and Mary Jane Young Borysoff. A US Army veteran, he was stationed in Okinawa during the Vietnam War. Together with his wife Rose Mary, Dan owned and operated All Rite Water Conditioning in Vero Beach, FL, providing water purification systems. He had formerly been employed locally by Ed Shults Chevrolet. In Florida, Dan was a member of St. Helen's Catholic Church. He loved time spent with family and friends, long walks on the beach and hours gardening with his wife. A sports enthusiast, Dan loved all sports. In earlier years he had coached the city recreation's Bambino baseball team, the Astros, in Jamestown. In addition to his wife, whom he married October 13, 1979, surviving is a daughter, Rebecca (Daniel) McIlvain Mastera of Vero Beach and son, Robert (Brooke) McIlvain of Jamestown; three granddaughters, Victoria, Maria and Danielle McIlvain of Jamestown; and a sister, Penny (Ray) Schabel of Lady Lake, FL. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. Darrell G. Duffy will be celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, Tampa, Florida.
