Obituary of Burdette W Utter

Burdette Walton "Bud" Utter, 76, of 880 Driftwood Ave., Columbus, IN formerly of Jamestown passed away at 2:20 a.m. Tuesday (August 10, 2010) in the Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus, IN. Mr. Utter was born October 24, 1933 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Eric H. and Selma Carlson Utter. He was a 1952 graduate of Jamestown High School and attended Jamestown Community College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving as a Morse Code Radio Operator Technician during the Korean War from August 7, 1952 until his honorable discharge on July 31, 1956 as an Airman First Class. While living in Jamestown he was employed as an Order Administrator and Shipping Supervisor for the former Crescent Tool Company for 20 years. He also worked as a Freight Salesman for Boss-Linco and several other trucking companies in the Jamestown area. He retired as a Shipping Supervisor for Rock Tenn in Columbus, IN and most recently had worked part time for Menards. Bud enjoyed spending time with his family, his grandchildren, great grandchildren and many friends. He especially enjoyed the love of his life "Molly", his 14 year old 4 legged friend. He also had a passion for classical, bluegrass and country music. He accumulated a huge collection of DVD's and CD's and records over the years. He enjoyed reading and collecting biographies and books of historical interest and was known as a very skilled woodworker, having built two houses and remodeling several others. Bud also cherished his Swedish heritage and loved his trips to Sweden to visit his Aunt Edith and Uncle Gustav. He loved to travel and enjoyed his trips to Florida, Texas, and especially the Smokey Mountains and Pigeon Forge and treasured his visits with his brothers Robert and Glenn. He was a former member of the First Lutheran Church and was also a Sunday School Teacher and past member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church. He also was a member of the Busti Historical Society and served as Secretary-Treasurer for the Jamestown Traffic Club for 20 years. He was active as a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Ira Lou Spring Post # 149 American Legion and the Thule Lodge. Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Oleita M. Ricketts Monteleone Utter whom he married September 20, 1969 in Jamestown, four step-children, Terry Anne Kirkby of Ind., IN, Kathleen R. (Ray) Worton, Raymond J. Monteleone, Stephen G. Monteleone all of Columbus, IN, nine grandchildren Nicole Deaton,, Jason and Brittni Kirkby, Chelsey Stutzamn, Angelica, Joshua, Jordan and Jeremy Monteleone and Madison Johnson, six great grandchildren, Ema and Eli Deaton, Myah Black, Jillian, Haylie, and Karlie Monteleone and two brothers, Robert Utter of Jamestown, Glenn Utter of Beaumont, TX. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Gerald A. Haglund will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from noon to 2:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
