Obituary of Richard G. Bartell

Richard George Bartell, 82, of 13 Liberty St Bemus Point, passed away peacefully Tuesday (October 12, 2010) in his home following a long battle with mesothelioma. He was born February 22, 1928 in Curwensville, PA the son of William Joseph and Elizabeth Sandri Bartell. Richard was a 1945 graduate of Curwensville High School. He was a US Navy Veteran serving on the USS Cambria for a few months before transferring to the USS Little Rock from 1946 until 1947. Prior to his retirement, he worked at Chautauqua Brick for 30 years. Earlier while living in PA, he worked at Sandri Supply Company and Bartell Excavating. He was a member of Ellery Memorial Post 947 VFW, the USS Little Rock Association, and was active in Boy Scouts and coaching Little League Baseball. Surviving are his wife, Colene Harper Bartell whom he married June 4, 1954; four children, Joni Bartell of Curwensville; Richard W. Bartell of China; Randy Bartell of Holmdel, NJ; Tim Bartell of Bemus Point; a sister, Marian Schalk of Curwensville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, his twin, Dorothy Briggs; and Melva Shick. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 am Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel G. McBride, pastor of Bemus Point United Methodist Church will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday in the funeral home.
