Obituary of Erma G. Fish

With great sadness our family wishes to announce the passing of Erma G. Fish Mother passed on Monday November 8, 2010 at 91 years of age. Born in Greenville, PA to Elroy and Nora (Mowry) Shannon on September 28, 1919. Her family moved to Jamestown when she was 12 years of age where she spent the rest of her life. Erma graduated Jamestown High School in 1938. She married the love of her life, John E. Fish Jr. in March 1942, and had 3 children, Jim, John and Judy. Erma was respectfully a wonderful homemaker caring for her family on the Hunt Road. She also volunteered her time to many organizations which she received the United States Presidential Volunteer Award in 2008. During the Vietnam War she would travel to Buffalo Veterans Hospital (1966-1968) where she helped care for our wounded soldiers. She spent 10 years as a Red Cross Blood Bank volunteer, 30 years on S.W.C.S. Chautauqua County Election Board, and R.S.V.P. Volunteer from 1998 until she was 88 years of age. She also was a center point for Hunt Road for yearly Cancer collection drives. Her personal interests were sewing, knitting, canning and had a great love of animals. She is survived by her Brother James L. Shannon and his wife Barbara of Houston, Texas, her Son, James L. Fish and wife Carolyn (Benson) Fish of Celoron NY, Daughter, Judith A. (Fish) Marshall and husband Paul Marshall of South Carolina. Erma was blessed to have 6 Grandchildren, Rebecca E. (Fish) Fox, Jennifer J. Fish, John E. Fish IV, Darbie N. (Marshall) Pickard, Bryan P. Marshall, Jaime C. (Fish) Wieczorek and 8 Great Grandchildren, with many wonderful Nieces and Nephews. Her life was preceded by the death of her Son, John E. Fish III in 2009, her Granddaughter Jennifer J. Fish in 1988 and husband John E. Fish Jr. in 1985 whom we all miss. Erma was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Lakewood since its inception. Family and Friends will be received in the Lind Funeral Home on Friday November 12, 2010 from 4:00-7:00PM where a Christian Wake Service will be led by Msgr. Dowdell at 3:45 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church, Lakewood at 10 AM Saturday November 13, 2010 officiated by Msgr. Joseph M. Dowdell. Erma will be buried next to her husband John at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of Flowers, donations can be made to Celoron Fire Department in Celoron, NY, or to a charity of your choice.
