Obituary of Margaret Dreyer Smith

Margaret Dreyer Smith, 90, of Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility, formerly of Lamont St Jamestown, died at 12:20 p.m. Wednesday (December 29, 2010) in WCA Hospital. She was born April 15, 1920 in Cumberland, MD the daughter of the late Nathan T. and Margaret Brooks Dreyer. She was a graduate of Jamestown High School and had worked as a proofreader at the Jamestown Post Journal for eight years. She was a communicant of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church for 60 years, and presently Our Lady of Loreto in Falconer. Margaret served as a Girl Scout Leader; and was a member of the Mothers Club at Ss. Peter and Paul School, Catholic Daughters, and Home Bureau. Surviving are three daughters, Margaret (John) Fuchs of Jamestown; Barbara (William) Totherow of Barrington, NH; Janet (Marc) DeMarco of Rochester, NY; two sons, Michael (Sharon) Smith of Emerson, NJ; David (Elizabeth) Smith of Colorado Springs, CO; 12 grandchildren, Nicholas and Megan DeMarco of Rochester; Joseph (Jen) Totherow of Galena, MD; Kate Totherow of North San Juan, CA; James Smith of Napa Valley, CA; Steven Smith of Emerson, NJ; Christopher Fuchs of Charleston, SC; Betsy (Charles) Wolfe of Dallas, TX; Matthew and Jeffrey Smith of Philadelphia, PA; Timothy Smith of Colorado Springs; Kaylynn (Chris) Elder of Lakenheath, England; one great granddaughter, Gillian Totherow; and a sister, Shirley (Charles) Norton of Summerfield, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband, George S. Smith whom she married November 20, 1941 in Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and who died August 13, 1987; three brothers, Nathan T. Dreyer Jr.; Richard Dreyer; and James E. Dreyer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Tuesday in Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church in Falconer. The Rev. Joseph Janaczek, pastor, will be celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of Loreto, 309 W Everett St. Falconer, NY 14733; Falconer Public Library, 101 W Main St, Falconer, NY 14733; St. Susan Center, 31 Water St. Jamestown, NY 14701; or a charity of choice.
