Obituary of Warren Jack Smith

Warren Jack "Smitty" Smith, 84, of 48 Livingston Ave. passed away at 6:20 a.m. Tuesday (January 4, 2011) in his home. An area resident since 1950, he was born March 16, 1926 in Williamsport, PA a son of the late Warren C. and Margaret Calvert Smith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force serving from November 23, 1943 to April 30, 1946 during World War II. During his tour of duty he received the Purple Heart, the Air Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Medal and the Distinguished Unit Badge with Oak Leave Clusters. Before his retirement he was employed by the former Marlin Rockwell Corporation for 38 years. He was a member of the Jamestown Moose Lodge and the Ira Lou Spring Post # 149 American Legion. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who loved to spend time reading. Surviving are his wife of 64 years Mary Jane Smith Smith whom he married December 13, 1946, three sons Barry Smith, Jack Smith both of Lost Creek, KY, Donald (Debbie) Smith of Ashville, three daughters Margaret (David) Steen of Brockport, NY, Kate (John Porter) Howard of Columbus, OH, Georgette Smith of Jamestown, 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two sons Michael K. Smith who died Oct. 21, 1995, Anthony S. "Tony" Smith who died Sept. 3, 2010, one brother and one sister. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Deacon Cathy Smith, chaplain of Hospice Chautauqua County will officiate. Burial will be in the Wild Rose Cemetery, Town of North Harmony. Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
