Obituary of Jean E. Swanson

Jean E. Swanson, 82, of 145 Greenhurst Village Drive, Jamestown, passed away at 2:53 a.m. Tuesday (January 18, 2011) in W.C.A. Hospital. An area resident since 1942, she was born September 22, 1928 in Salamanca, NY a daughter of the late Henry C. and Mildred Ehman Trummer. She had attended the Warren and Falconer Schools and was the widow of Carl O. "Kelly" Swanson whom she married June 19, 1948 and who died March 23, 2004. In earlier years, she was employed by the former Bigelow's Department Store and the former Clair-Vi Shoppe. Throughout her life, Jean enjoyed doing many crafts including sewing, knitting, crocheting, macram and ceramics. She also made cabbage patch dolls and clothing and sold them at the Clair-Vi Shoppe and at many craft shows. She was an avid birdwatcher, animal lover and enjoyed working in her flower garden. She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother who loved to spend time with her family watching football and hockey games. Surviving are son Ronald M. Swanson of Jamestown, two grandson's Ronald M. Swanson, II of Sacramento, CA, Chad C. Swanson of North Hornell, NY and two great grandchildren Cassidy and Ryder Swanson. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by a son Robert C. Swanson who died May 24, 1992 and a brother Robert H. Trummer who died February 28, 1984. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Alison L. Leitzel, pastor of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd. Jamestown, NY 14701.
