Obituary of George E. Bryant

George E. "Sonny" Bryant Jr., 86, of 1619 West Third St., Jamestown, formerly of Shadyside Ave. Lakewood, died at 3:10 a.m. Wednesday (January 19, 2011) in WCA Hospital. He was born April 6, 1924 in Jamestown the son of the late George E. and Mary L. Swanson Bryant Sr. George was a US Navy veteran of WWII, serving as Seaman First Class onboard the USS Miami. He received the Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal, European African and Middle Eastern Star, and Good Conduct Medal. Prior to retirement, he worked for many years at Chautauqua Hardware. He was a life member of Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion, and a former member of the Moose Lodge and Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. George enjoyed camping with his kids and grandkids, fishing, and horseshoes. He was also an avid mall walker, and enjoyed time with his dog, Max. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Waneta Ringer Bryant; three sons, Larry (Liane) Bryant, David Bryant, Steven (Judy) Bryant, all of Jamestown; a daughter, Linda (Bob) Gagliano of VA; 15 grandchildren, Tammie, David, Larry Jr., Kellie, Bobby, Cory, Cody, Cassie, Lindsey, Nick, Lisa, Jeremy, Angela, Michael, Tonya; and 18 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Tammy Lynn Bryant; an infant brother, Richard Bryant; and four sisters, Irene Carlson, Dorothy Greenlee, Joan Truver, and Jean Rapp. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt, Lutheran Home Chaplain will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Road, Jamestown, NY 14701.
