Obituary of Howard C. Hendrickson

Howard C. Hendrickson, 93, of 117 Johnson Street, died Sunday December 27, 2015, in his home. A Jamestown resident all of his life, he was born March 14, 1922, a son of the late Harold and Eunice Darling Hendrickson. He was a 1940 graduate of Jamestown High School where he was induced into the National Honor Society. A WWII veteran, he served in the US Navy from 1942-45 as a radioman. Much of that time was in the South Pacific Theater. Howie started his working career as a draftsman for Art Metal. He later worked for Bell Aircraft, Buffalo and Sandberg Sprinkler and Piping Company. In 1956 he started an apprenticeship with Henry Carlson Plumbing. He started his own plumbing and heating business in 1962 receiving his Master Plumbers License in 1972. He was appointed to the Jamestown Plumbing Board in 1980 and served until 1991. In 1955 Howie, along with a group of men and their families founded the Jamestown Ski Club. He was a member of the Vikings since 1949 and enjoyed spending time on Chautauqua Lake. He also enjoyed owning and restoring antique cars and was a member of Chautauqua Lake Region of the Antique Car Club of America. Surviving are his wife the former Dorice Anderson, whom he married October 25, 1957; a son Bradley C. (Cindy) Hendrickson of Erie, PA; three grandchildren Michelle, Brian and Rachael Hendrickson all of Erie and two brothers Donald Hendrickson of Wheeling, WV and Allan Hendrickson of Jamestown. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Robert Hendrickson. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Tim Phelps will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 3-5 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 W.
