Obituary of Wesley I. Waite

Wesley Illingworth Waite, 89, of 109 Valleyview Avenue, died Sunday April 30, 2017, in UPMC Chautauqua WCA. A lifelong Jamestown resident, he was born March 3, 1928, the son of the late William and Florence Illingworth Waite. A 1946 graduate of Jamestown High School, he later graduated from Alfred Extension. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps and also the Naval Reserve. From 1948 to 1990, he was employed by Jamestown Veneer and Plywood, where he was plant manager and eventually an owner. Following his retirement from Jamestown Veneer and Plywood, he started his own business, West Wood Veneer. He was a lifelong member of Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church where he was a longtime Sunday school teacher to both youth and adults. His strong faith in the Lord was evident to all who knew him. Wes enjoyed fishing and boating on Chautauqua Lake, including time spent on his catamaran which he built. Surviving are his wife of 67 years Gloria Marshall Waite, whom he married April 29, 1950; four daughters Sandra Wicklund, Patricia (Rick) Hooks, Wendy Waite and Judy (Russell) Carpenter all of Jamestown and four grandchildren Eric, Kristen and Justin Wicklund and Emily Carpenter. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law Jonathan "Jim" Wicklund. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
