Obituary of C. Robert Ecklund

C. Robert Ecklund, 80, of 101 Summit Ave., Jamestown, passed away Monday, July 31, 2017 in his home.

He was born in Jamestown on May 18, 1937, a son of the late Einar N. and Gunvor L. Gustafson Ecklund.

Bob was a 1955 graduate of Jamestown High School where he was an excellent student and outstanding basketball player. He received honors his senior year as a Chautauqua County First Team All Star in Chautauqua County and Western New York. Bob continued to play basketball as a point guard while attending Baldwin Wallace University.

He was a retiree of the Truck-Lite Co. where he had been employed as a production engineer.

Bob was an excellent golfer and through the years a member of South Hills, Conewango and Jackson Valley country clubs. He also refereed high school basketball for 10 years as a member of Board 39 IAABO.

Surviving are a son, Mathew (Edith) Ecklund, three grandchildren, Rachel, Mark and Derek Ecklund, and a great-granddaughter, Ava Schnars, all of Panama, NY; as well as a daughter, Beth (Doug) Jackson, two grandsons, Nicholas and Nathan Jackson, and a great-granddaughter, Eva Jackson of Cincinnati, OH. Also surviving are a brother, Russell (Thelma) Ecklund of Jamestown and sister, Carol Bender of Lakewood; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a son, Mark R. Ecklund who died September 11, 1994.

A private family service will be held, with the Rev. Donald E. Ray officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.

A Celebration of Bob's Life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, September 17, 2017 at the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club in Lakewood, NY.
