Dorothy M. Harper passed away in her home at 1:22 a.m. on Friday October 27, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Jamestown on October 2, 1947 to Betty M. Whitford.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother Betty M. Whitford; her husband William J. Harper Sr.; and her brothers, Floyd, Norris, George, and Edward Whitford. She also lost a son, Terry T. Harper and a grandson, Chance B. Harper.

Her surviving siblings are, Paul D. Whitford (Cathy) of Jamestown; Michael B. Whitford (Louise) of Florida; and Betty B. Whitford (Julia) of Texas.

Dorothy was a graduate of Jamestown High School, class of 1966. After graduation she married the late William J. Harper Sr. on December 20, 1966. The two had four children: William J. Harper Jr. (Amanda) of Idaho; Terry T. Harper of Jamestown; Loretta L. Emke (Timothy) of Jamestown; and Luke F. Harper (Anita) of Panama. Dorothy traveled many years with her husband and children while William served in the United States Army. They then settled in Jamestown, NY where she worked and retired with Titan X. Dorothy was also a graduate of LPN School.

Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. There was nothing she enjoyed more than cooking for all, besides maybe crocheting. She also loved playing card games, Yahtzee, and Cribbage with her family. To the very end, Dorothy always did for others before she would do for herself.
