Obituary of David W. Carlson

David W. Carlson, 84, of 303 W. 5th Street, died Thursday November 2, 2017, in his home. A Jamestown native, he was born October 31, 1933, a son of the late Ernest and Evelyn McCollough Carlson. He was a 1951 graduate of Jamestown High School and was a Korean War veteran of the US Navy serving from 1952-55. Dave was employed as a manager of The High Rise and earlier Falconer Mobile Home Park. He had also worked at Shults Auto dealership as a salesman and as a milkman of Dairylea and Lake County Dairy. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Lakewood Memorial Post 1286 and Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. Dave will be remembered as a witty and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a proud veteran and an enthusiastic fan of the Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees. Passionate about his family, friends and golf, he lived life in full swing. There is a Willie Nelson song that says, "There is only one map to the journey of life and it lives within your heart." Dave's family is so grateful for being a part of his journey. Surviving are three children Dianne (John) Kervin of Falconer, Daniel (Barbara) Carlson of Dripping Springs, TX and Douglas (Dana) Carlson of Flowery Branch, GA; 6 grandchildren Amanda (Michael) Laurin of Jamestown, David (Veronica) Carlson and Leanne Carlson of Austin, TX, Sara (Hugh) McKernan of Lakewood, Matthew Carlson of Stockholm, Sweden and Laura (Chip) Wells of Braselton, GA; 8 great-grandchildren; a sister Jan Skistimas of Neosho, MO and companion Betty Cox of Jamestown. He was preceded in death by his wife Dawn Schilling Carlson, whom he married October 31, 1953 and who died March 20th, 2013 and three brothers Donald, Robert and Reynold Carlson. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, 120 Chandler Street, Jamestown, NY 14701 or Jamestown Boys and Girls Club, 62 Allen Street, Jamestown, NY 14701.
