Obituary of Mary L. SanFilippo

Mary L. SanFilippo, 96, formerly of 213 Dearing Ave. Jamestown, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017, in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A lifelong area resident, she was born April 18, 1921 in Syracuse, NY, a daughter of the late Paul and Sarah Carmen Loverme. She was a 1939 graduate of Jamestown High School where she played on the women's basketball team. Before her retirement in 1993, she was the manager and a buyer for Carnahan's Clothing Store where she worked for 42 years (she was affectionately known as the "Carnahan Lady"). During World War II she worked as the launching crew secretary for the Southeastern Shipyard in Savannah, GA. Mary was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish at St. John Catholic Church where for many years she sang in the church choir. She was also a member of the Eastside Fellowship Club, the Gaeta Club and the Bridge Club. She also enjoyed playing golf, was an avid bowler and loved playing Bocce. Surviving are a daughter, Dr. Marie F. (John) Plumb of Randolph, NY; a son, George P. (Jennifer) SanFilippo of Austin, TX; eight grandchildren: Capt. John F. (Radha) Plumb, U.S. Navy Reserve, of San Francisco, CA and Lakewood, NY, Julianne M. Plumb (Andrew Bettwy) of New York City, Mary K. Plumb of Jamestown, Michael K. Plumb (Shannon Norton) of Florham Park, NJ, Sara E. (Adam) Tamashasky of Bethesda, MD, Justine SanFilippo of Los Angeles, CA, Andrea M. SanFilippo of Pittsburgh, PA, Christa E. SanFilippo of Austin, TX; eleven great grandchildren: Ethan SanFilippo, Kyra, Nicholas and Alexander Bettwy, Aidan McCleery, Ella, Sydney and Nora Tamashasky, John "Jack" Plumb, Nathan and Zachary Plumb; a brother, Charles Loverme of Jamestown and a sister, Rosina Giordano of Jamestown. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank W. SanFilippo whom she married September 6, 1944 and who died June 6, 1965, two sisters, Lucy Musty and Grace Schifano, and a brother, Carmen Loverme. Mary's family would like to thank Dr. John LaMancuso for his care of Mary over the years and also thank the dedicated nurses, aides and staff of Heritage Park for their compassionate care of Mary during the last five years of her life. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Saturday, December 30th, in Holy Apostles Parish at St. John Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor of Holy Apostles Parish will be celebrant. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Falconer, NY. Friends will be received from 4-7 pm Friday (today) in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 3:45 pm Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua Blind Association, 510 West Fifth St. Jamestown, NY 14701 to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to a charity on one's choice.
