Obituary of David B. Davis

David B. Davis, 86, formerly of Jamestown, passed away peacefully January 1, 2018 in Boca Raton, Florida. An area resident most of his life, he was born in Jamestown January 12, 1931, son of the late Ralph and Frances Davis. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1948, the University of Pittsburgh in 1953, and served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955. He was president and owner of Sanitary Wiping Cloth Company, a family business started by his father, Bison Waste & Wiper, Rochester Wiper, and Swanson's Potato Chips. He was a former member of Temple Hesed Abraham, where he served as congregation president. He belonged to Moonbrook Country Club, Rod and Gun Club, United Jewish Appeal and the International Association of Wiping Cloth Manufacturers, serving as director from 1967-1970. In retirement, he enjoyed golfing, jogging, playing bridge and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a devoted father and was very charitable to many people and organizations. One of his proudest memories was being Jamestown mayor for a day as a Boy Scout. Surviving are his wife Beverly Davis of Boca Raton, daughters Michelle Franco of Los Angeles, CA and Stephanie Davis of Collegeville, PA, grandchildren Ross Lomire, Hunter Lomire, and Ally Lomire of Collegeville, his brother Joseph Davis of Vero Beach, FL and his cousin Sidney Davis of Naples, FL who was like a brother to him. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday January 7, 2018 at Lind Funeral Home. Burial will be at Beth El Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Disabled American Veteran or the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.
