Obituary of Melvin E. Bronson

Melvin Earl Bronson, 82 of Loretta Street, Jamestown, NY., formerly of Las Cruces, NM and Chicago, IL, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2018, while at home with his New Mexico family, and entered the waiting arms of his Lord and Savior. An area resident since 2006, he was born July 17, 1935 in St. Paul, MN, a son of the late Earl and Mae Henton Bronson. Before his retirement he was a window washer for the Chicago Board of Education, and prior to that worked for Bally Corporation. Melvin also served in the United State Army. Melvin was a long-time active member of the Hoyne Avenue Wesleyan Church where he served as a board member, led a nursing home ministry, served in Vacation Bible School, and transported people who needed rides to church. He was everyone's "Uncle Mel," and he was known to be a godly prayer warrior and extremely generous; giving not only to his church, but to many missionaries, and other charitable organizations. Locally, he was a regular attendee of the Panama Baptist Church in Panama, NY and Grace Bible Church in Las Cruces, NM. He is survived by several nieces and nephews including Donna J. (Joseph) Blasczyk of Las Cruces, NM, Kathryn M. (Dale) Lundmark of Russell, PA, and Gail M. Mersch of Jamestown, NY. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by five brothers: James Fewer, Allen Fewer, Stanley Fewer, Vernon Bronson, and Lindy Bronson; six sisters: June Bronson, Mary Jane Bronson, Donna M. Holeman, Diane Johnson, Sharon Koehn, and JoAnn E. Bronson; and his nephew and former care-giver, Kelly A. Mersch. The funeral will be held at 4:00 pm Thursday, March 8, 2018, in the Panama Baptist Church. The Rev. Rodney Sprowls, pastor will officiate. Entombment will be in the Tranquility Garden Columbarium of Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 3:30 – 4:00 pm Thursday just prior to the service in the church.
