Obituary of Henry Gerard Ducat

Henry Gerard "Jerry" Ducat (Duquette), 91 formerly of West Ellicott, passed away Tuesday March 6, 2018 in Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. He was the husband of Dorothy Roberts Ducat, whom he married in Jamestown on December 23, 1944. She passed away on November 12, 2013. Jerry was born on June 13, 1926 in Brooklyn, CT., the son of Henri "Harry" and Flora Desrosier Ducat. He was a Licensed Real Estate Broker for over 40 years; owned and operated Ducat Real Estate in Lakewood and West Ellicott. Previously he owned and operated Jerry's Garage and also worked at Art Metal in earlier years. Jerry was an active community and Business Leader; member of Lakewood Kiwanis Club; Founder/President of former Lakewood Chamber of Commerce; Town of Ellicott Councilman; Town of Ellicott Board of Appeals; Democratic Committeeman; Vice President Chautauqua County Vacationlands Association; Vikings Club; Celoron Volunteer Fire Department; Red Cross gallon blood donor; Salvation Army volunteer; and Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. He was also a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bemus Point where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and Usher; member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Jamestown; Regional and County Chairman of the Annual Catholic Charities. Surviving are his children: Ronald (Tami) Ducat of Lakewood; Richard (Bernice) Ducat of Belleview, FL; Susan (Ronald) Getska of Viena, FL; grandchildren: Ann Nelson of Jamestown; Michael Ducat of Lakewwod; Jennifer Ducat of Panama, NY; Lori Getska Weishar of Poulsbo, WA; Gregory Getska of Rockledge, FL; Tim Ducat of Belleview, FL; great grandchildren: Kurt, Emily, Madelyn Nelson of Jamestown; Audrey Ducat of Lakewood; and Kevin Weishar of Poulsbo, WA. Also surviving are a brother: Joe Ducat of Naples, FL; and sister: Jean Nadeau of Zephyr Hills, FL. Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by brothers: Albert, Robert, LeRoy, and James Ducat; and sisters: Noella Young, Pauline Duprey, Rita Bourque, Theresa Stanart, Elaine Salisbury, and Flora Smith. He will be remembered as a caring, giving, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and also for his wonderful sense of humor and his kindness in always helping others. "May the rays of God's mercy embrace the soul of your servant, O Lord and give it rest with your saints- where there is neither pain, nor sorrow, nor sighing, but everlasting life!" A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Tuesday March 13, 2018 at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bemus Point, NY. The Rev. John L. Kuhlmann, will be celebrant. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service in the church. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
