Obituary of Robert V. Carlson

Robert V. Carlson, 91, of Jamestown, passed away at 8:20 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018, in the Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility, Gerry, NY. A lifelong area resident, he was born August 12, 1926 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Blaine O. and Alida Anderson Carlson. Bob was a 1944 graduate of Jamestown High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force. He served his country from November 27, 1944 to August 29, 1946, with the 467th Army Air Force Base Unit, during World War II earning the World War II Victory Medal, and the American Campaign Medal. He was also very proud to be a physical fitness instructor for the troops while in the Army. Before his retirement in 1990, he was President of the Donelson Trucking and Storage Company in Jamestown for 25 years. He was a 59 year member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and a 30 year member of the Moon Brook Country Club. He was also a member of the Ingjald Lodge 65, Independent Order of the Vikings for many years. He was an avid golfer, having scored 4 hole in ones during his golfing career. He was also a gifted water color artist, painting many beautiful scenes for his family. During his high school career he was a natural athlete involved in several sports and enjoyed body building. Following high school he played semi pro sports for several years. He was also a fan of the Glen Miller Orchestra and was a member of the Glen Miller Birthplace Society in Clarinda, IA. Surviving are his wife, Marie Traficante Carlson whom he married March 21, 1954, two daughters; Lori Carlson-Hijuelos (late Oscar) of New York City , Leigh Ann Carlson-Brattain (Larry) of Cleveland, OH. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Sherwood "Bud" Carlson and a sister, Beverly Roberts. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel K. Nagle, pastor of the First Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service on Saturday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd.
