Obituary of William E. Graves

William E. "Bill" Graves, 91, of Gerry, formerly of Painesville, OH, passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2018 in his home at the Trustee Building on the Heritage Village Campus. An area resident since 2011, he was born Sept. 29, 1926 in Madison, OH, the son of the late Cecil and Jane Cowan Graves. He was married to his wife of 68 years Patricia M. Patrick Graves on Aug. 1, 1949. Bill was a graduate of Geneva High School. He was a US Navy veteran serving in World War II and was aboard ship and witnessed the signing of the treaty in Tokyo Bay ending World War II. He was proud of being a veteran and participated in forums at the Robert H. Jackson Center talking about his experiences and enjoyed reading books on history and especially on World War II. Before retiring in 1996 as a foreman, he was employed at TRW in Cleveland, OH for 33 years. Before moving to Gerry, he was a member of the First Congregational Church in Painesville, OH for over 50 years. He enjoyed anything to do with cars and was considered a "car buff". Bill is survived by his wife Patricia, a daughter Jane (Jerry) Grice of Mayville, a son Buzz (Pamela) Graves of Tulsa, OK, and a grandson Lucas Marshaus of Raleigh, NC. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed.
