Obituary of Frank A. Papaserge

Frank A. Papaserge Sr., 78, of Jamestown passed away Saturday May 19, 2018 in UPMC Chautauqua WCA Hospital. He was born December 25, 1939 in Jamestown the son of the late Alfonso and Mary Grace Trippi Papaserge. Frank was a 1958 graduate of Jamestown High School. He worked at Sandee's Bakery as a butcher before entering the US Army. Serving from 1963 until 1968, he was a Staff Sergeant stationed in Munich Germany and served in Vietnam, receiving 2 Purple Hearts. Frank was an avid gardener gardening and he could be seen out in his garden planting yet another zucchini or tomato plant. He also enjoyed hunting when he found the time to do so. When Frank wasn't gardening he could be found in the house canning or baking his famous bread and pizza that he would share with the neighbors. Many times he would have a neighborhood picnic with his home grown corn and potatoes. He enjoyed playing cards with family and neighbors till all hours of the night, whether it was pinnacle or bridge he was a fierce competitor. All who knew him remember him best for the love he had for his family and friends. Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Carola Ortloff Papaserge; a daughter, Susanne Ortloff (Jeffery A.) Bloom of Jamestown; a son, Frank A. Papaserge Jr.; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Sam and Patsy Papaserge; and two sisters, Dominica Cafaro and Rose Civiletto. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will be in Holy Sepulchere Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Chautauqua County Master Gardeners, 3542 Turner Road, Jamestown, NY 14701; or the American Heart Association; or to a charity of choice.
