Obituary of Akos Kuhl

Akos "Ike" Kuhl, 84, of Jamestown, passed away at 1:43 a.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2018, in his home following a lengthy illness. An area resident since 1959, he was born May 14, 1934 in Kaposvar, Hungary, a son of the late Joseph and Julia Endredi Kuhl. "Ike" was an accomplished woodworker his entire life and before his retirement was co-owner, with Steve DeFazio, of Allegheny Store Fixtures in Bradford, PA. In earlier years he was a cabinetmaker for Frank Chase of Chase Interiors for 40 years. He will be remembered for his love of cars and especially enjoyed restoring his Lotus. He also loved the game of soccer which he played in his early years and enjoyed watching the games on television. Surviving are two daughters; Judith Wight of Bemus Point, NY, Donna (Jeff) Kuhl-Chimera of Mebane, NC, four grandchildren; Sophia Kuhl-Chimera, Lennon Kuhl-Chimera both of Mebane, Madeline Wight, Reid Wight both of Bemus Point, a sister; Maria Lavicska, his caregiver and with whom he made his home and a brother; Joseph T. (Chris) Kuhl of Whippany, NJ. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife the former Karen Carlson Kuhl, whom he married November 26, 1986 and who died October 9, 1997, and a sister; Georgia Pentek. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2018, at Holy Apostles Parish at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor will be celebrant. At "Ike's" request visitation will not be observed. Friends will be received in the fellowship hall of the church following the mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Holy Apostles Parish, 508 Cherry St. Jamestown, NY 14701 or to The Foundation of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, Upon This Rock, 795 Main St, Buffalo, NY 14203.
