Obituary of Dorothy N. Depas

Dorothy N. Depas, 87, of 100 Fairdale Ave., Lakewood, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Heritage Park Rehab & Skilled Nursing. She was born August 23, 1931 in Muskegon, MI, a daughter of the late Edwin and Katherine Erickson Nelson, and was a 1950 graduate of the former Lakewood High School. In earlier years, she had worked at Jenkins Dairy and been a cook at Beechwood Country House and the Airport Restaurant. She retired after a number of years with Chautauqua Hardware and following retirement worked for the Office For The Aging. She also served as a Chautauqua County Election Inspector. Dorothy was a member of First Baptist Church in Jamestown for many years. She also belonged to the Celoron American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing Bingo and was an avid New York Yankees fan. Surviving are three sons: Robert (Judy) Spencer of Jamestown, Richard Spencer of Busti and Randall Depas of Lakewood; four grandchildren: Rachael and Maggie Spencer of Jamestown, and Monica and Ashton Spencer of Buffalo; a great-granddaughter, Ruby Havley; two brothers: Edwin Nelson, Jr. of Ashville and Arkie Nelson of Lakewood; and a sister, Kitty (David) Parker of Dewittville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Robert Nelson and two sisters, Edna Farnsworth and Nina Depas. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael Childs will officiate. Burial will be in Bentley Cemetery. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care, 20 W. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750.
