Obituary of Lois M. Grout

Lois M. Grout, 89, of South Dayton, formerly of Kennedy, Salamanca, and Bemus Point, passed away on Friday, Oct. 19, 2018 in the Jennie B. Richmond Chaffee Nursing Home in Springville, NY. She was born on June 25, 1929, in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Harry and Amy Carlson Mosher. She was a 1947 graduate of Jamestown High School and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran -Tree of Life Parish. Before retirement, she owned and operated an Adult Propriety Home in Salamanca, caring for the elderly. She enjoyed knitting, especially winter caps for the local mission, Love School, and the homeless. She also enjoyed puzzles, cooking, baking, and especially time with her family. Lois is survived by her children; Elizabeth (Earl) Covert of South Dayton, Thomas (Karen) Grout of Shelby, MI, Richard (Marjorie) Grout of Lima, NY, Barbara Croce of Olean, Rebecca Fisher ( Kathie Barnes) of Bardstown, KY, Kenneth (Martha) Grout, of Taunton, MA; 13 grandchildren: Amy, Derek, Jacob, Sarah, Rachael, Karena, Steven, Joshua, Rebecca, Deborah, Natalie, Marcus, and Jerry; 14 great grandchildren; one new great-great granddaughter Azalea Lois; and four beloved nieces: Shirley Peters, Carol Reckhan, Martha Taylor, and Anne Grout; and a beloved nephew, John Grout. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney W. Grout, whom she married May 2, 1948 and who passed away Nov. 6, 2000; and a sister Doris Chapman. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018 in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Tara Lamont Eastman will officiate. Burial will be in Thayer Cemetery, Town of Carroll. Friends will be received for two hours prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Tree of Life Evangelical Lutheran Church, 556 East Second St., Jamestown, NY 14701 or to a Humane Society of one's choice.
