Obituary of Elizabeth R. "Betty" Tumminia

Elizabeth R. "Betty" Tumminia, 80, of 63 Ames Ave., passed away Thursday, October 25, 2018 at UPMC Hamot in Erie. She was the wife of James J. Tumminia, with whom she celebrated their 60th anniversary this past June 7th. Betty was born in Jamestown on August 3, 1938, a daughter of the late Patsy Traniello and Mary Traniello Johnson, and was a 1956 graduate of Jamestown High School. In earlier years, she was employed by the Lerner Shops, Bankers Trust of Jamestown and Key Bank of Jamestown. Betty had been a member of St. John Catholic Church for over 60 years where she was active in the Italian Festival and served as a Eucharistic Minister. In more recent years, she and her husband have been members of St. James R.C. Church. Betty's love and support for her family and friends were evident everyday throughout her life. Bella Mia, her Havanese puppy who was always by her side, brought great joy to her over the last six years. She was the epitome of tradition, which made for memorable holidays for her family and friends. She was an incredible cook and a fantastic baker, often times decorating cakes for others or sharing her famous Italian cookies over the Christmas holiday. Betty is survived by her husband, Jim; three daughters: Debra (Craig) Kerrison of Lockport, NY, Cheryl (Dave) Eckler of Fishers, IN and Natalie (Andrew) Peters of Eldersburg, MD; three grandchildren: Ryan and Kaitlyn Eckler of Fishers and Alyssa Peters of Eldersburg; a sister, Jane (Frank) Pekarski of Falconer and brother, Pat (Toni) Traniello of Jamestown; and nephews, Bruce & Lucas Pekarski and Joe & Matthew Traniello. She was preceded in death by her parents and a niece, Michelle Pekarski. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. Darrel Duffy will be celebrant. Inurnment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 3:45 p.m. Memorials in memory of Betty may be made to an association near and dear to your heart.
