Obituary of John S. Holt

John S. Holt, 86, formerly of 209 E. Virginia Blvd., went home to be with the Lord, Sunday December 9, 2018, in the Lutheran Retirement Home. A lifelong Jamestown resident, he was born March 5, 1932, a son of the late Clifford and Edna Ostrom Holt. He was a 1950 graduate of Jamestown High School, received a Bachelor's Degree from Buffalo State University and earned a Master's Degree from St. Bonaventure University. He was a Korean War veteran of the US Navy serving from 1952-56. Prior to his retirement in 1989, he was employed by Jamestown Public School District as an industrial arts teacher at Jamestown High School. He was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir and served on virtually every committee over the years. He currently was a member of First Covenant Church. His other memberships include Gideons Jamestown Camp and Lake Chautauqua Lutheran Camp, where he served on the board of directors. He sang in the Living Christmas Tree at First Covenant Church for 24 years. He enjoyed golf, however, as a man of faith his church and his family were his life. Surviving are his wife the former Jean Douglas, whom he married November 25, 1955; three children Cynthia (Charles) Reese of DuBois, PA, Wayne S. Holt of Franklin, PA and Linda (Kennen) Tillman of Houston, TX; five grandchildren Charles S. Reese of Pittsburgh, PA, Daniel Reese of Los Angeles, CA, Allyson Holt of Baltimore, MD, Shaylor (Devin) Tillman of Cedar Rapids, IA and Karis Tillman of Houston, TX; a great granddaughter Emma Reese; sister JoAnn (Don) Anderson of Jamestown; a brother Richard (Cindy) Holt of Jamestown and two cousins Susan (Terry) Meyers of Syracuse NY and Paul (Nancy) Holt of Jamestown NY. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in First Covenant Church. Rev. Adam Rohler and Rev. Daniel Rumfelt will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home.
