Obituary of Betty Lou Markiel

Betty Lou Markiel, 86, formerly of Miller Valley Road, Kennedy, and Brookdale, Lakewood, died Saturday January 19, 2019, in Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing surrounded by her family. A native of Emlenton, PA, she was born August 7, 1932, the daughter of the late Fern Fleming Schnell. She was a 1950 graduate of Jamestown High School. She was employed by Dr. Bradley as a dental assistant for 7 years. After her marriage, she made the focus of her life home and family. She enjoyed gardening, classic movies, listening to music, using her tablet, conversing with friends and, later in life, pastel painting. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending their many school events. Family was her greatest joy. Surviving are three daughters Kimberly (Jeff) Gustafson of Jamestown, Melody (Marty) Peterson of Frewsburg and Amy Beth (Brian) Melquist of Jamestown; six grandchildren Andrew (Sandra Enriquez) Gustafson of Kansas City, MO, Katelyn Gustafson of Jamestown, Christopher (Ashley) Peterson of Frewsburg, Benjamin (fiancée Katie Titus) Peterson of Pittsburgh, PA, Mikayla (Benjamin) Gauger of Frewsburg and Lilly Melquist of Jamestown and three great grandchildren Kadence and Jayden Peterson and Lorna Gauger. Besides her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband Walter Markiel, Jr., whom she married May 18, 1957 and who died May 20, 1999. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday in the funeral home.
