Obituary of Donna E. Chapman

Donna E. (Frye) Chapman, 88, of Button Valley Road, Ashville, passed away Friday January 25, 2019 in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility after fighting a courageous four year battle with cancer. An area resident most of her life, she was born August 22, 1930 in Bonnywood, NY the daughter of the late Fredric William Frye and Mary Pearl Andrews Frye Griffin. Prior to retirement, Donna worked at the Lakewood Super Duper for 27 years. Previously, she worked at G.C. Murphy Co., and WCA Hospital. She was a lifetime very active member of the Watts Flats United Methodist Church where she would always run the store at the annual Harvest Dinner, along with helping with many other church activities. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, bingo, traveling, and attending church events. Surviving are a son, James C. (Jane) Chapman of Busti; a daughter, Diana Wehrenberg of Ashville; five grandchildren, David Chapman of Aurora, CO, Scott Button of Jamestown, Ben Button of Frewsburg, Andrew Chapman of Busti, and Kim Wehrenberg of Phoenix, AZ; seven great grandchildren, Savannah, Nicholas, Sarah, Alyssa, Michael, Allen, and Logan; and a sister, Linda Edington of Greenhurst. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Merle E. Chapman who died March 29, 2005; two sons, M. Alan Chapman and Larry Chapman; her step father, George Griffin; three sisters, Elva Nelson, Alberta Gonda, and Georgia Baldwin; and a brother, Bud Frye. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Watts Flats United Methodist Church. The Rev. Warren Van Dewark, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Watts Flats. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service Tuesday in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Watts Flats United Methodist Church, PO Box 7, Ashville, NY 14710; or the American Cancer Society.
