Obituary of Vernon R. Sheldon

Vernon R. Sheldon Sr., 70, of Panama Bear Lake Road, Panama, NY, passed away unexpectedly Monday April 29, 2019 in the Corry Memorial Hospital. A lifelong area resident, he was born June 6, 1948 in Jamestown the son of Richard and Leona Ecker Sheldon. He was a Tool and Die maker at Crescent Tool, Jamestown Perforators, Thayer Tool and Die, Chautauqua Hardware, and retired from Classic Brass. Vern was a life member of the Panama Fire Co. serving as Chief or Assistant Chief for most of his 20 years. He was also a member of the Clymer Conservation Club where he served as president, and he enjoyed the outdoors. He is survived by his parents of Panama, his wife of 30 years, Karen Lewis Sheldon, six children: Vernon "Scooby" Sheldon Jr. (Kendrya) of Panama, grandchildren, Kaylee and Katheryn; Darcie Roberts (Brett) of Sinclairville, granddaughter Emily; James R. "Jim Bob" Sheldon (Missy Chase) of Celoron, grandchildren Olivia and Kensley; Lucas W. Sheldon (Michael Pease) of Jamestown; Zachariah Sheldon (Jody) of Ashville, grandchildren Erin Manning and Daisy Pearl Sheldon; Andrew Sheldon of Panama. Grandchildren Andrew and Emmett; three sisters: Jane Swanson of Lakewood; Kathy Lobdell of Virginia; Tricia McAdoo of Jamestown; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by and infant granddaughter, Jessica Marie Roberts, and two sisters, Pamela and Sharon. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday May 2 in the Lind Funeral Home. Pastor Donald Reese will officiate. Burial will follow in the Grant Cemetery, Niobe, NY. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday May 1 in the funeral home.
