Obituary of Kathleen A. McCarthy

Kathleen A. McCarthy, 71, of Maple Springs, New York, died peacefully at home on Sunday, May 26, 2019 following a battle with cancer. Kathleen was born on October 9, 1947 in Buffalo to William E. McCarthy and Anne Lahrs McCarthy and grew up in Orchard Park, New York. A career social worker and educator, Kathleen spent four decades helping children and families through her work in New York City, Boston, and Somerset, Massachusetts. Having spent sixty summers on Chautauqua Lake, Kathleen and her husband Robert Wooler have lived year-round in Maple Springs since 2013 where Kathleen pursued her interests in social work, real estate, the library, crew, and journalism, with each of those professional and recreational pursuits accompanied by the gathering and keeping of friends whose company and support Kathleen treasured above all. Kathleen is pre-deceased by her parents but is survived by her spouse, Robert Wooler; her sister, Patricia (George) Benninghoff of Aspen, Colorado; and her children: Timothy (Julie) Magee of Ridgefield, Connecticut, Gabriel (Caroline) Johnson of Los Angeles, California;, Scarlet (Samuel) Batchelor of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Kate Wooler of Washington, DC. She is also survived by grandchildren William and Natalie Magee of Ridgefield, Connecticut and Max, Eli, and Iris Batchelor of Cambridge, Massachusetts. A time of remembrance and celebration for Kathleen will be held on Saturday, June 29 at 4 pm at the Hotel Lenhart in Bemus Point. In honor of Kathleen's love for animals, her passion for rescue, and her devotion to her happy places in life, memorial contributions can be made to New Leash on Life in Celoron, New York or the Cayman Islands Humane Society, and in recognition of her love of rowing and her years of local service, contributions may be made to the Chautauqua Lake Rowing Association.
