Obituary of June M. Newell

June M. Newell, 93, of Mayville, NY, passed away at 5:36 am Tuesday, May 28, 2019, in the Westfield Memorial Hospital, Westfield, NY. She was born May 25, 1926 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of the late George and Ella Krohn Werner. She was the widow of Richard F. Newell who died February 5, 2008. He was a retired Professor Emeritus after 40 years at Erie Community College in Buffalo, NY. After retirement June and her husband spent winters in Simpsonville, SC and summers in their home in Mayville, NY. June had been a secretary for Cornell Laboratories in Buffalo, NY, a church secretary and a real estate agent. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Jamestown, NY and formerly Hedstrom Baptist Church in Buffalo, NY and Grace Baptist Church in Amherst, NY. She also was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Simpsonville, SC. Her church life and church family were very important to her. She and her husband served as youth directors at Hedstrom Baptist Church and directors of the college and career youth group at Grace Baptist Church for a number of years. Surviving are a son; Richard G. (Sandi) Newell of Mayville, NY, a daughter; Nancy L. Newell of Greenville, SC, 16 grandchildren; Richard G. (Kim) Newell of Los Gatos, CA, Krista M. (Matt) Reitnour of Mechanicsburg, PA, Ryan M. (Amber) Newell of Santa Barbara, CA, Katie (Matt) Murphy of Savannah, GA, Rick (Kayla) Rigdon of Pendleton, SC, Michael (Cheryl) Rigdon of Easley, SC, Steven (Della) Rigdon of Greenville, SC, Kevin Rigdon of Liberty, SC, Rebecca (Bill) Bennett of Taylors, SC, Angela Rigdon of Easley, SC, Whitney (Houston) Hughes of Easley, SC, David Rigdon of Pendleton, SC, Curtis (Katie) Newell of Ind, IN, Jessica (Patrick) Berch of Stilwell, KS, Dennis (Brianne) Mitchell of Frederick, MD, Paula Mitchell of Mayville, NY and 21 great grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Gary W. Newell, daughter-in-law, Doreen Newell, a granddaughter, Stephanie Newell, a great grandson, Joseph Berch and a sister, Shirley L. Werner. The funeral will be held at 6 pm on Monday, June 3, 2019, in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Derrick Hicks, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Jamestown, NY will officiate. Burial will be in the Graceland East Memorial Park, Simpsonville, SC. The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm on Monday in the funeral home.
