Obituary of Ernest E. Mesel

Ernest E. Mesel, 83, of Jamestown, passed away surrounded by his family Monday evening, June 3, 2019 at UPMC Chautauqua. He was born June 14, 1935 in Cherry Creek, NY, the youngest of fourteen children of the late Ernest B. and Gertrude Johnson Mesel. Ernie had been employed as a machinist by MRC-SKF, retiring after 40 years of service. He was a member of Camp Street United Methodist Church, as well as the Jamestown Moose Lodge. He always enjoyed woodworking and following retirement, made many pieces of fine furniture. He also enjoyed golf in his retirement. Ernie mostly loved being a grandfather and attending all of his grandchildren's events. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Apthorpe Mesel; two daughters: Kim (Mike) Greiner of Bemus Point and Kerry Erskine of Falconer; and six grandchildren: Brandon, Courtney and Sydney Greiner of Bemus Point, and Kaitlyn, Rachel and Matthew Erskine of Falconer. Also surviving are five step-children: Pamela Andrews, Patricia Phillips, Jill Lecceardone, Barbara (Rick) Nygren and Herbert Brooks; fifteen step-grandchildren: Ginger Gray, Jake Andrews, Brooke DeCola, Josh Andrews, Jillian Peterson, Donald Rexford, Colton Phillips, Alicia Fraccorali, Andrew Lecceardone, Dea Voorhis, Deena Calhoun, Andrew Nygen, Nick Nygren, Piper Brooks and Haley Brooks; nineteen step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven sisters and six brothers; a stepson, Raymond Brooks; and step-great-granddaughter, Brandi Mia DeCola. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Camp Street United Methodist Church, led by the Rev. Jennifer Delahoy. Friends and family are invited to join for a luncheon and celebration of life at 11:30 a.m. in the church activity hall. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at http://www.Alz.org.
