Obituary of Janet Q. Canby

Janet Q. Canby, 85, of Jamestown, NY, passed away at 8:30 p.m. on Monday, July 15, 2019 at Heritage Village Rehab & Skilled Nursing. A lifelong area resident, she was born June 5, 1934, a daughter of the late Alfred G. and Eva J. Pederson. Janet began her early working career at the former Nelson's Department Store as a window dresser. She then was a homemaker and talented seamstress who enjoyed making clothing and stuffed animals. She is survived by two children: Amy (Steven) Lake and William (Jennifer Stafford) Canby, both of Jamestown; three grandchildren: Randall Lake of Jamestown, Matthew (Natasha Stenstrom) Canby of Jamestown, Jessica (Reid) Parsons of Youngsville, NC, and great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Janet was preceded in death by her first husband, Ernest W. Quist in 1967, and second husband, Kenneth H. Canby in 1993. At Janet's request, there will be no funeral service, as she donated her remains to the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Buffalo.
