Obituary of Helen E. Weaver

Helen E. Weaver, 89, formerly of 16 Englewood Ave. and 114 Chadwick St. in Jamestown, passed away Thursday evening, July 18, 2019. She was the widow of J. Emerson "Bud" Weaver whom she married December 27, 1952 and who died August 5, 1992. Helen was born in Jamestown on August 10, 1929, a daughter of the late Alvar F. and Hilda Beckstrom Wahlstrom, and was a 1947 graduate of Jamestown High School. She had been employed by WCA Hospital for 26 years, initially in the Personnel Department and a few years later becoming the hospital's first Volunteer Coordinator. While at WCA she active on various volunteer coordinator committees. Helen was a member of and served as President of the Norden Women's Club, Marvin Community House Board of Governors and Mozart Club, where she was chairman of the 125th Anniversary Celebration. She had also been chairman of the 'Make-Believe-Tea' event for the Josephine Fenton Gifford Scholarship Fund awarded to high school seniors, and belonged to the JHS 100 Member Club. Her past memberships include Zonta Club, church women's groups, YMCA board and The Creche. Helen was a past recipient of the Rotary Club's Paul Harris Fellow award. She loved to knit, sew, entertain family and friends, and play golf. Helen also loved her flowers and had her garden featured on a Home Garden Tour. Surviving are two daughters: Carol (Steve) Delpero of Portland, OR and Marcia (Wayne) Carlson of Lakewood, NY; five grandchildren: Phillip Delpero and Vincent Delpero, both of Portland, Molly Carlson of Erie, PA, Kristofor (Johanna) Carlson of Sherman, NY and Alexander Carlson of Lakewood; a sister, Alice Carlson and brother, Paul (Beverly) Wahlstrom, both of Jamestown; as well as her friend and companion, Lowell Green. In addition to her husband, Bud, Helen was preceded in death by a grandson, Stephen Delpero; a great-grandson, Meritt Emerson Delpero; and a brother, Arthur Wahlstrom. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 27 in Bellinger Chapel of First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Bruce Archibald will officiate. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service, from noon to 1 p.m. in the church Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 509 Prendergast Ave., or the Marvin Community House, 2 W. Fifth St., both Jamestown, NY 14701; Shriners Hospitals for Children, 1645 W. 8th St., Erie, PA 16505; or to a charity of choice.
