Obituary of Shirley C. Glatz

Shirley C. Glatz, 93, formerly of 132 Aldren Ave. Jamestown, passed away at 6:15 am Wednesday, November 20, 2019, in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. A lifelong area resident, she was born December 1, 1925 in Jamestown, NY, a daughter of the late Elof B. and Effie S. Swanson Carlson. She was a 1943 graduate of Jamestown High School and a 1947 graduate of the WCA Hospital School of Nursing. Before her retirement, she was employed as a registered nurse at WCA Hospital for 20 years where she was head nurse in pediatrics. Shirley was a longtime active member of the First Covenant Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of several ladies circles and involved in many activities within the church. She also sang in the Living Christmas Tree and served on the publicity committee for many years. She was also a member of the WCA Hospital Alumni Association, the Mozart Club, Norden Women's Club and enjoyed golfing in the Ladies Golf League at the Bemus Point Golf Club. Surviving are her two sons, Jeffrey M. (Sue) Glatz of North Tonawanda, NY, Thomas J. (Mary) Glatz of Jamestown, five grandchildren, Kirstin Harris of Lakewood, NY, Christopher Glatz of Youngstown, OH, Kimberly Weiss of Bloomfield, CO, Ryan Glatz, Eric Glatz both of North Tonawanda and 6 great grandchildren, Judson Harris, Oscar Harris, Lars Weiss, Caroline Weiss, Hayden Glatz, Jensen Glatz. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John A. Glatz whom she married June 5, 1948 and who died May 26, 2003, a son, David R. Glatz who died in 1954 and 2 sisters, Ardelle Goss and Cynthia Hydes. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, November 23, 2019, in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Adam Rohler, pastor o f the First Covenant Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service on Saturday in the funeral home.
