Obituary of Anita A. Cooney

Anita A. Anita was born on October 9, 1935 in Canastota, NY, a daughter of the late Harrison and Hazel Edson Newhall. In her late teens, early twenty's Anita taught adults and children how to roller skate at the skating rink in Celoron. She also participated in skating shows. Anita loved camping at Allegheny State Park, spending time in Alexandria Bay and Nashville and volunteering at the Jamestown Audubon. She was a huge fan of old country music. In more recent years, she loved watching trains in Westfield with her husband. On June 18, 1955, Anita married the love of her life, David L. Cooney, Sr. She was a loving mom of Diana (Michael) Zubrzycki, Donya (late Gregg) Moore, and David (Viva) Cooney, Jr. Very loving grandma of several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the sister of John E. (Joan) Newhall Sr. and sister in law of Nancy Newhall. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and special friends Barb and Jim Krill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Robert Vincent, Leslie Vincent, Harold "Skeet" Vincent, Harrison Newhall, Jr., and a sister Lois Newhall. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2019 in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt, chaplain of Lutheran Home, will officiate. Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. on Friday in the funeral home. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Heritage Village for their care, compassion, and support this past year.
