Obituary of Beverly J. Thorstenson

Beverly June Larson Thorstenson, 90, of 842 N. Main St., formerly of 84 Myrtle St. and Fluvanna Ave., passed away Monday, January 6, 2020 at Heritage Park Rehab & Skilled Nursing following a brief illness. Beverly was born June 22, 1929 to Lester and Inez Benson Larson in Kane, PA. Beverly was a 1946 graduate of Jamestown High School, serving as secretary of the reunion committee for many years. She was an active member of The 100 Member Club of JHS. She worked in several secretarial jobs throughout her working career, including Crawford Furniture, First Congregational Church, United Way and Halsted, Corey Accounting. Bev also worked at The Cake Shop and Brostroms. An active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was confirmed and married, Beverly was choir member, taught Sunday School, assisted with junior and cherub choirs, a student of the Bethel Bible Series and volunteered in many church activities over the years. In earlier years, she and her family enjoyed camping, and she volunteered many hours at Lake Chautauqua Lutheran Camp. Beverly greatly enjoyed being involved in Shoestring Players - where she was involved both onstage and behind the scenes in many shows and made many friends. She was an area bowler and softball player in her younger days. She was known among her friends for her handmade Christmas cards, which was also usually the first card they received every year. Bev made lots of friends where ever she went and enjoyed her friends at Silvertree Apartments/Carlson Tower where she was a regular at weekly Bingo games and many other building functions. In addition to her parents, Bev was preceded in death by brother, Richard H.G. Larson and her former husband, Arthur L. Thorstenson. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah (Philip) Brown of Jamestown; son, Barry (Elizabeth) Thorstenson of Ridgway, PA; granddaughter Heather (Wilber) Cronk of Ridgway, PA; and 4 great-grandchildren, Gideon, Caedmon, Cecily and Thorsten Cronk; as well as several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on date to be announced.
