Obituary of James B. Holt

James B. Holt, 91, of Jamestown, passed away at 3:04 am Thursday, January 9, 2020, in the Warren General Hospital, Warren, PA. A Jamestown area resident for most of his life, he was born March 27, 1928 in Hornell, NY, a son of the late Charles M. and Dora M. Mattson Holt, Sr. He was a graduate of Andover Central School and following graduation had served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1946, in the Philippines. He then enlisted in the U. S. Air Force where he attended flight engineers training. He participated in the Berlin Airlift and flew as a crew member to Alaska and Japan and then as a flight engineer crew chief on 63 combat missions to Korea. After his discharge from the Air Force he began working for AMSCO and American Sterilizer Company in Jamestown, NY, where he retired in 1986 as a Supervisor. Following his retirement from American Sterilizer he then became manager of manufacturing for the Jamestown Metal Corporation. James and his wife Ursula enjoyed camping, canoeing, and trips to Myrtle Beach in their camper. Surviving is his son, Ross F. (Penney) Holt of Palm City, FL, two granddaughters, Lesley Marie Holt (Sean) Laljie of Stuart, FL, Farrah Lee Holt (John) Gomez of Sherrills Ford, NC and two great granddaughters, Ariana Rylee Gomez, Rosalee Radha Laljie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ursula M. Johnsdorf Holt whom he married in 1949 and who died March 30, 2014, a son, Steven Holt and two brothers, Charles and William Holt. A private family service will be held in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel Nagle, pastor of the First Lutheran Church will officiate. Visitation will not be observed. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
