Obituary of Pearl E. Lewis

Pearl E. Lewis, 82, of 2181 Brook Street, Ashville, died Thursday February 6, 2020 in Absolut Care of Westfield. She was born October 6, 1937 in Busti, NY the daughter of the late DeWarren and Beulah Colburn Barton. For many years, Pearl worked at Chautauqua Perennial Gardens. She also did flower arranging for weddings and sold jams and jellies from her home. Pearl taught flower arranging and gardening through the 4-H program. For many years, she volunteered at the Busti Apple Festival, and was a long time member of the Red Hatters Society. Pearl and her late husband Jack loved country music and were always on the go. Surviving are a daughter, Karen Sheldon of Panama; a son, Scott Lewis of Ashville; a daughter in law, Jean Lewis of Ashville; five grandsons, Lucas Sheldon, Josh (Irene) Lewis, Zack (Jody) Sheldon, Andy Sheldon, and Scott Lewis II; four great grandchildren, Emmett, Daisy Pearl, Andy, and Brayden; seven step grandchildren, Vern Sheldon Jr., Darcie Roberts, James Sheldon, Kyle Jinks, Llyssa Links, John Forni, and Erin Manning; a brother, James (Jean) Barton of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John I. "Jack" Lewis whom she married June 25, 1955 and who died May 21, 2007; a son, John I. Lewis who died in 1985; a sister, Martha Carlson, and a brother, Allen Barton. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel W. Cook will officiate. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Ashville. The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ashville Free Library, or the Ashville Fire Department.
