Obituary of William A. St. John

William A. St. John, 84, of Ashville, passed away Friday February 7, 2020 in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. He was born August 26, 1935 in Jamestown the son of the late William W. and Bernice Merchant St. John. For many years, he worked at AMSCO as a welder. He also cut and split firewood for years after his retirement. Surviving are his wife, Berenice Covert Hallberg St. John whom he married October 9, 2004; two sons: Steve St. John of North Carolina, Bruce (Sheila) St. John of Jamestown; two grandsons: William and Phillip St. John both of Jamestown; four stepchildren: Marshall L. Hallberg of Ellery Center, Brian L. Hallberg of Maple Springs, Marcie L. Tarr of Jamestown, Kathy L. Lindquist of Westfield; several step grandchildren; and a brother, Louis St. John of Tennessee. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Farley St. John; a step son, Kevin L. Hallberg; a step daughter, Karen Dodge; and a brother, Donald St. John. The funeral service will be held at 12 noon Wednesday February 12 in the Lind Funeral Home. Gary Buchanan, pastor of Lighthouse Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Ashville. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service (11 a.m. to noon) Wednesday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Road, Jamestown, NY 14701.
