Obituary of Faith E. Oakes

Faith E. Oakes, 89, of Jamestown, passed away Wednesday April 8, 2020 in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. She was born May 21, 1930 in Jamestown, NY the daughter of the late Harold and Alta Greene Denniston and was raised in Westfield by her grandmother, Clara Knott. Faith worked with special needs children in the Southwestern School District and traveled with her husband for Sudan Interior Missions and they also traveled with Rev. Billy Graham for his ministry. She was an active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Jamestown and was a member of Christian Women's Association. Faith enjoyed scrap booking, cooking, singing, spending time with her family, and greatly loved her grandchildren who remember phone calls when she would find another Easter egg. Surviving are two sons: Danny J. (Jan) Oakes of Albuquerque, NM, Philip R. (Steffen) Oakes Gauss of Palm Springs, CA; a daughter, Cynthia D. Carlson of Lakewood, NY; five grandchildren: Clint VanDewark of Honeoye, NY, Brian Steenburn of Naples, NY, Jason Oakes of Jamestown, NY, Kirk Oakes of North East, PA, Kimberley Kropf of Erie, PA; seven great grandchildren; and three step sisters: Trudy (John) Lichacz of Orlando, FL, Sue (Robert "Bob") Higgins of CT, and Gretchen (Sam) Alessi of Jamestown and Fort Myers, FL. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald J. Oakes whom she married April 29, 1950 in Westfield, NY and who died December 11, 2019; and a brother Tom Denniston.
