Obituary of Florence G. Swanson

Florence G. Swanson, 97, of 743 Falconer Street, formerly of 818 Forest Avenue, died Thursday May 21, 2020, in her home surrounded by her family. A lifelong area resident, she was born July 4, 1922, in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Ephraim and Myrtle Anderson Fosberg. After attending school in Busti, she graduated from Jamestown High School in 1939 and attended beauty school in Warren. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Marlin Rockwell Corporation for 25 years as an inspector. As a longtime member of First Covenant Church, she was active in Women's Circle. Her other memberships include Viking Lodge, Thule Lodge, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club and a life membership of the VFW. The family wishes to thank Hospice and the members of the "Best Team" for the wonderful care provided to their mom. Surviving are three children Tyler Swanson of Punta Gorda, FL, Cynthia Ann Tonrey of Harvard, MA and Debra Joy Barth of Long Island, NY; five grandchildren Christina Tewksbury, Caroline Monaghan, Greta Joy O'Dwyer, Jeffrey Swanson and Claire Barth and seven great grandchildren Cora and Evan Tewksbury, Lucy and Amelia O'Dwyer and William, James and Daniel Swanson. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Gilbert Swanson, whom she married March 22, 1941 and who died November 7, 1991; three brothers Elmer, Oman and Sheldon Fosberg and three sisters Charlotte Elliott, Minnie Andorf and Mabel Tarr. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
