Obituary of H. (Hazel) Mary Taylor

H. Mary Taylor, 92, of 35 Louisa Avenue, died Tuesday June 2, 2020, in the Lutheran Retirement Home. A lifelong area resident, she was born November 7, 1927, in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Oscar and Isabelle Johnson Anderson. She was a graduate of Panama High School where she was salutatorian of her class. Her working career began at Bigelow's Department Store. Later, she found her true passion working as assistant librarian at Southwestern Middle School. The students affectionately called her Mrs. T. Following retirement she worked for Taylor Electric as secretary. A woman of strong Christian faith, she was confirmed and a member of First Lutheran Church. While raising her family, Mary was a Cub Scout den mother and actively involved in Panama's PTA. She was an ardent supporter of her husband's lifelong involvement in Chautauqua County Fire Service. An animal lover, both great and small, she was known for feeding and raising many stray cats. She and her husband spent many enjoyable summers in the RVat Tom's Point and Hidden Valley Campground. More than anything she will be remembered by all for her unconditional love and kindness. Surviving is a son Raymond A. (Maria) Taylor of Lakewood; grandchildren Stephanie (Rob) Baird and Eric (Kathryn) Taylor; great grandchildren Ross and Samantha Baird and Kayla, Kailey, Julia, Eric Jr and Charlotte Taylor; a sister Valien (Tim) Carlson of Naples, FL and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Raymond C. Taylor, whom she married September, 26, 1949 and who died April 28, 2000 and a son Randall Taylor. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed.
