Obituary of John H. Siggins

John H Siggins II, 69, of Busti, went to be with his Lord Thursday, July 30, 2020, in UPMC Chautauqua. He was born January 2, 1951, in Jamestown, the son of the late John H and Lura Bucklin Siggins. John graduated from Southwestern Central School in 1969 and he earned his Associate's Degree from Jamestown Community College then went on to complete his Bachelor's Degree in Business with a minor in Geology from Fredonia State University. John proudly served his country in the Vietnam era as a member of the US Army. He began his career in the employment of York Steak House where he advanced to become both Regional and District manager. He was a Quaker State Jobber and also owned his own restaurant. From there he went to work for Yaw Oil Company where he sold industrial oils and eventually went out on his own as an independent underground tank tester and remediator. Most recently John was known as the voice of "The Town Square" on WJTN. John was a longtime and dedicated member of the Free and Accepted Masons, His memberships include: Past Master of Carroll Lodge, No. 1147 Free & Accepted Masons of the State of New York in Frewsburg; Past Master, Past Secretary and Past Treasurer of Sylvan Lodge No. 303 Free & Accepted Masons of the State of New York in Jamestown; Past Grand Director of Ceremonies for the Chautauqua Masonic District of the State of New York; Past Excellent High Priest of Western Sun Chapter, No. 67 of Royal Arch Masons in Jamestown; Past District Deputy Grand High Priest of the 32nd Capitular District of the Royal Arch Masons of the State of New York; Past Illustrious Master of Dunkirk Council No. 25 of New York State Cryptic Masons in Fredonia; Past Monarch, Past Secretary, and Past Treasurer of Kharram Grotto in Jamestown; Past Sovereign Master of Conewango Council, No. 243 of The Grand Council Allied Masonic Degrees of America in Jamestown; Past Master, Past Secretary, and 1996 charter member of the Justice Robert H. Jackson Lodge of Masonic Research, No. 9010 in Jamestown; Past President of the Jamestown Shrine Club; Member of the ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, USA in Jamestown; Member of Ismailia Shrine Club in Buffalo; Member of Dunkirk Commandery, No. 40 Knights Templar, in Fredonia; Past Chautauqua Masonic District Historian for the Free and Accepted Masons of the State of New York; Member of the Grand Council of Rites of the USA; Advisor to the Order of Demolay in the State of New York and instrumental in helping with the Chautauqua District's Masonic Safety ID program. John was a proud lifelong member of the Busti Community and greater Chautauqua County. A true renaissance man, the diversity of events and organizations he was involved in is staggering. He embodied the essence of one of his favorite quotes, "If you think you can, or if you think you can't, you're probably right." John thought he could and he made things happen. He spearheaded so many projects with enthusiasm and tireless, behind the scenes effort which made each event come off with dignity and grace. He was the Busti Town Historian and he wrote articles, entitled "Our Town," for the Chautauqua Star for every town in Chautauqua County. John was instrumental in putting Busti on the Punkin Chunkin circuit when he started Pumpkin Hurling in Busti in 1993. This crowd pleaser even brought the BBC to our area when they filmed a television special on projectiles. John worked with the Special Olympics Soap Box Derby bringing smiles to the faces of many wonderful kids. The Busti Fire Department held a very tender place in John's heart and this year was his 50th year as a member of that department. During those years John held many offices. Other places John served included two terms on the Southwestern Central School Board, the uniqueness was his terms were almost 30 years apart. He was on the American Cancer Society Advisory Board, The Multiple Sclerosis Board, and John served as both past Ministry Team and Resource Team Leader at the Busti Federated Church. Surviving are his wife Deborah Carlson Siggins, whom he married September 23, 1988; four children John Clair Siggins of Florida, Rushton Reed (Jennifer Marie Lisciandro) Siggins of Jamestown, Daniel Eugene (Megan Griswold) Siggins of Busti, and Catherine Elizabeth Siggins of Busti; two grandchildren Johnathan Marshall Siggins of Frewsburg, and Sloane Raeanne Siggins of Jamestown and three sisters Janet (Donald ) Peterson of Gerry, Susan (Jim) Snavely of Wabash, IN, and Deborah (Al) Ferrell of Charlotte, NC.
