Obituary of Richard J. Gibbons

Rev. Richard J. (Rev. RJ) Gibbons, 90, of Jamestown, NY, was called home to meet his Lord and Savior and be reunited with his wife and son on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 in his home. An area resident for most of his life, he was born December 13, 1929 in Wattsburg, PA, a son of the late Guy and Edith Shampoo Gibbons. Pastor Gibbons was the founder of the Jamestown Revival Center and ministered to the Jamestown community for many years. He also led a worldwide ministry which took him all over the world. As a property owner, his tenants were very important to him and they thought the world of him as well. Surviving is a daughter; Judi Knight of Tampa, FL, a son; Richard (Lisa) Gibbons of French Creek, NY, several grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn L. Thieme Gibbons whom he married October 2, 1946 and who died February 23, 2016, a son, Daniel J. Gibbons who died in 2007, as well as a brother, Johnny Gibbons and two sisters, Myrtle and Mary Lou. A private family service will be held in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Gene Kenneth, retired pastor and close friend, will officiate. Burial will be in the Mina Cemetery. Friends will be received from 11:00 -1:00 pm, service will be held at 1 pm Thursday, August 13, 2020, in the funeral home. In accordance with New York State guidelines, masks are required and social distancing will be observed.
