Obituary of Jackson S. Carpenter

Jackson S. "Jack" Carpenter, 92, of Falconer, NY, formerly of Penny Farms, Florida, passed away at 1:00 pm Tuesday, September 15, 2020, in the Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility, Gerry, NY. Jack was born April 11, 1928 in Jamestown, NY, a son of the late Ira and Edith Pettit Carpenter. He was a graduate of the former Lakewood High School and before his retirement was employed by Hopes Windows for several years. He also worked as a host with his late wife Marilyn at the Baptist House in Chautauqua Institution for many years. Jack enjoyed fishing, bowling, roller skating, coaching Babe Ruth baseball, watching his grandson John's baseball games and collecting stamps and coins. For many years, he and Marilyn traveled in their motor home visiting family and friends throughout the United States. After retirement, Jack and Marilyn moved to the Penny Retirement Community in Penny Farms, FL where they made many new friends and lifelong memories together. They also loved traveling with their constant companion, their dog "Bijou". Following Marilyn's death in 2016, Jack returned to New York to live with his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Tim. Surviving are his children; Barbara (Ken) Peterson of Henderson, NV, Dennis (Phyllis) Carpenter of Bradenton, FL, Lavern "Jack" Carpenter (Kelley Galyen) of Berlin, MD, Debbie (Tim) Moore with whom he made his home in Falconer, NY, his step-children; Diana Saxton of Ripley, NY, Marilyn (Jim) Bendig of North East, PA, Marge Keefe of Greenhurst, NY, Linda Miceli and David Gilbert both of Jamestown, Sheryl (Neil) Westfall of Marietta, OH, Dr. Mark Phillips (Nancy Basmajian) of Athens, OH, Paul Phillips of Santa Fe, NM, a daughter-in-law; Deborah Yoakum of Falconer, NY, his grandchildren; Stephanie (Tom) Lackey of Ferndale, WA, Wayne (Carole) Johnson of Jamestown, NY, Jamie (Sabrina) Carpenter of Kennedy, NY, Viola (George) Carpenter of VA, Heidi Carpenter and Cody (Cindy) Carpenter both of Snow Hill, MD, Sara (Barkley) Wise of Westfield, NY, John Moore of Anchorage, AK, Michael Moore of Minot, ND, his step-grandchildren; Phil Clark, Frank Saxton, Bobby (Diana) Bendig of Chesterfield, MI, Matt (Vicki) Bendig of Erie, PA, Todd (Wendy) Keefe of Ashville, NY, Tracy (Jim) Curtis of Frewsburg, NY, Tony Miceli, Mark (Michelle) Miceli, Frank (Melissa) Miceli, Kerstin (Dion) Jackson, Rachel (Mark) Holland all of Jamestown, Carlo (Linn) Miceli of Falconer, NY, Monica (Moe) Pinell of Parkersburg, WV, Amanda (Kurt) Bohlen, Jacob (Kersh) Westfall both of Marietta, OH, one great great grandchild, a niece Kathy Paterniti of Jamestown, NY, a nephew, Kam Carpenter of NC, and two special daughters adopted through love, Sheryl Thayer of Ashville, NY and Sherry Richards of Warren, PA. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his four lovely wives; Viola James Carpenter, June Yoakum Carpenter, Shirley Gilbert Smith Carpenter, Marilyn Bourne Phillips Carpenter, two brothers; Gordon and Dick Carpenter, a grandson; Jeremy Carpenter, a step-son; David Yoakum and a nephew Kelly Carpenter. A private graveside service will be held in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Donald Reese, pastor of the Ivory Baptist Church, Frewsburg, NY will officiate. Visitation will not be observed. Jack's family would like to thank the staff, nurses and aides at Heritage Village for their wonderful care of their Dad during his final days with his battle with Alzheimer's disease.
