Obituary of Bruce G. Cobb

Bruce G. Cobb, 83, formerly of Old Fluvanna Road, died Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Heritage Green Rehab & Skilled Nursing where he had resided since 2017. For 52 years, Bruce was the husband of the late Patricia Mullen Cobb whom he married May 15, 1965 and who died December 9, 2017. Bruce was born March 15, 1937 in Jamestown, a son of the late Marshall and Myrtle Hamer Cobb, and was a graduate of Jamestown High School. He also served in the Naval Reserves. Bruce was employed initially as a mechanic by the former Anderson's Garage and then Boss Linco. He then worked as a machinist for Watson Manufacturing and quality control inspector for Jamestown Metal Manufacturing, ultimately retiring as a quality control inspector from the Blackstone Corporation. A former member of Pilgrim Memorial Church, he later attended Ss Peter & Paul Catholic Church, and more recently, St. Luke's Episcopal Church. He was very involved in Boy Scouting, serving as Scoutmaster of the Fluvanna Troop #169 for over 30 years. He had also been a Cubmaster and a Webelos Den Leader. Always dedicated to Scouting and all Council activities, Bruce helped many Scouts reach their Eagle Scout rank, including his two sons. He was very proud of having received the Silver Beaver Award, the highest non-professional award in Scouting He was a past president and treasurer of the Kinzua Valley Region Antique Auto Club and enjoyed watching automobile racing, both locally and NASCAR. Bruce also loved working on cars and restoring classics, especially Thunderbirds, including a 1955, 1959, 1965 and 1969 with the 1959 being the family favorite. In former years, he was pleased to have helped build the family home with other family members, and following retirement enjoyed many woodworking projects. Mostly, Bruce was always proud of his sons and very supportive of all their activities, from sports to musicals and everything in between. Surviving are Bruce's two sons, Steven Cobb (Roosevelt Terry) of Jamestown, and Jeff Cobb of Amherst, NY. In addition to his wife, Patricia, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Cobb and sister, Sharon Cobb Stenander. A Memorial Service for Bruce's immediate family will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Friends and extended family are invited to join the service via St. Luke's Facebook feed at https://www.facebook.com/StLukesJamestown. The Rev. Luke Fodor will officiate.
