Obituary of Robert L. Eddy

Robert L. "Bob" Eddy, 98, of Park Creek Assisted Living Facility, Williamsville, NY, formerly of Whitehill Ave. Jamestown, NY, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021, in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Buffalo, NY, after a short illness due to complications of Covid-19. A Jamestown resident for most of his life, he was born October 27, 1922 in Jamestown, NY, a son of the late Lynn Watson and Luella Evelyn Smith Eddy, the last of three children. He moved to his Williamsville residence in 2008. He was a 1941 graduate of Jamestown High School and a 1949 graduate of Rider College in Lawrenceville, NJ. Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from January 14, 1943 to January 28, 1946 during World War II in Europe. He served as a Technician Fourth Grade with the 3358th Signal Service Battalion. During his tour of duty he received the American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Before his retirement he was employed by the former Marlin Rockwell Corporation and also the Blackstone Manufacturing Corporation. Robert enjoyed boating, fishing, summer visits to Bay Beach, Ontario, and family get-togethers. He loved to travel with his late wife Mary throughout the United States and Europe. Robert had a tremendous sense of humor and would break out in jubilant laughter. He had a deep appreciation for jazz music and visitors would hear it playing almost non-stop in his residence. He enjoyed attending live jazz performances, both in New Orleans and in Buffalo, NY. Robert also had a love for reading and watching sports on TV. He treasured his conversations with the staff and residents at Park Creek Assisted Living Facility, whom he considered to be his dear friends. Surviving are three generations of nieces and nephews who fondly referred to him as "Uncle Bob" as well as countless friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife the former Mary Kulig Eddy whom he married October 4, 1969 and who died May 28, 2008 and two sisters, Janice Schwegler and Onolee Rushing. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1;30 pm Monday, February 8, 2021, in Holy Apostles Parish at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor will be celebrant. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed.
