Obituary of Roy K. Storms

Roy K. "Sonny" Storms, 90, of Jamestown, NY, formerly of Port Richey, FL, and Springhill, FL, passed away at 12:46 am Thursday, April 29, 2021, in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. Roy was born May 30, 1930 in Buffalo, NY, a son of the late Roy J. and Linee Engdahl Storms. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1947 – 1950. During his tour of duty, he served on the USS Soley and the USS Wright. Before his retirement and move to Florida, he was a foreman for the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities where he worked for 29 years. Roy was a life member of the Jamestown Moose Lodge and while living in Florida was a member of the Springhill American Legion, the Hudson, FL Elks Club, Eagles Club, and the Veteran of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed watching sports, especially baseball and golf, and in earlier years was a manager and coach for the Babe Ruth Baseball League. He also enjoyed bowling, golf, and listening to music. Surviving is his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Weilacher Storms, whom he married June 28, 1952, four daughter's; Valerie Paul of Champlain, NY, Julie (Brian) Jones of London, Ontario, Dawn (Greg) Mullins of Knoxville, TN, Kimberly (Ted) Rust of Chesapeake, VA, as well as 12 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Roy Storms of Galitan, TN, four brothers, Ronald C. "Bud" Storms, Richard W. "Rit" Storms, Rodney D. "Butch" Storms, Robert D. "Bob" Storms and a sister, Marlene "Sugar" McConaghay. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 pm Monday, May 3rd, in the Lind Funeral Home where social distancing will be observed and masks must be worn while inside the funeral home. A private family service will be held immediately following visiting hours on Monday, May 3rd at 4:00 pm in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt, chaplain of Lutheran will officiate. There will be a committal service at Lake View Cemetery on Tuesday, May 4th at 11:00 am. The service will be live streamed at www.facebook.com/lindfuneralhomeinc/ beginning at 3:50 pm Monday. In honor of Roy K. Storms, memorials may be made to the Dementia Society of America, 188 North Main St. Doylestown, PA 18901.
