Obituary of Heather M. Potter

Heather M. Potter, 45, of 1250 Norby Rd. Jamestown, NY, passed away unexpectedly at 4:02 pm Monday, May 3, 2021, in UPMC Chautauqua. A lifelong area resident, she was born January 17, 1976 in Jamestown, NY the daughter of Brenda Prosser Johnson and Rodney Potter, Jr. Heather was a 1996 graduate of Jamestown High School where she received a standing ovation from her classmates when she received her diploma. She was employed by the Resource Center, working at the Harris Ave. Group Home and had also worked for the Basket Company. Heather was a member of the First Lutheran Church, where she loved reciting the Lord's prayer. She was also a very proud member of the Benjamin Prescott Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, enjoying many events and functions. Heather lived a full and wonderful life despite many challenges. Her grandmother Audrey Prosser spent many hours teaching Heather to read and write. She won numerous medals while participating in the Special Olympics in golf and bowling. She also loved attending live theater, from Broadway, Erie Playhouse, and Shea's Theater. She liked traveling to Florida with her family where she loved listening to the ocean as it put her to sleep. She was also very fond of dancing, word search puzzles, animals, eating out, drinking coffee and watching the Buffalo Bills. Holidays were extra special for Heather, as she kept her family and friend's young at heart. If you met Heather, you would never forget her. Her warm smile and cheerful greeting were unforgettable and funny. Everyone got a kick out of all the things Heather said and did. She just made you feel good just being around her. Surviving is her mother and step-father, Brenda and Scott Johnson of Jamestown, her father and step-mother, Rodney and Jana Potter of Cassadaga, NY, a sister, Kerry Potter of Harveys Lake, PA, two brothers, Jarod and Collin Potter of Cassadaga, and her special roommates, Janel McIntyre and Rebekah Swart. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, George and Audrey Prosser, Rodney Potter, Sr. and Robert and Jane Greene. Heather's family would like to thank the staff at the Norby Road Group Home for all the love they gave to Heather enabling her to enjoy a full and meaningful life. The funeral will be held at 11:00 am Saturday in First Lutheran Church. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt, interim pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received on a walk-through basis from 3-5 pm Friday in the Lind Funeral Home, where social distancing will be observed, and masks must be worn. A Daughter's of the American Revolution memorial service will be led at 2:45 pm Friday in the funeral home.
